Former Kaduna Central Senator and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Shehu Sani has reacted to the leadership drama that has enveloped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Taking to his Twitter account, Sani described the development as a coup.

“From Civil war to ‘coup’ in the ruling party,” he wrote.

It will be recalled that shortly after the APC had denied sacking Mai Mala Buni, the Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello on Monday presided over a meeting of the Caretaker/Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The meeting held at the party Secretariat in Abuja even as armed security men surrounded the facility to forestall any breakdown of law and order, Naija News reports.

However, when questioned on taking over as the new leader of the APC, Sani refused to acknowledge or deny the development but only said he has been in an acting capacity since the chairman (Mai Mala Buni) travelled.

Speaking after presiding over a meeting of the CECPC on the leadership ‘confusion’, Bell said: “Acting chairman, I have been acting for a while since the chairman travelled.”

Pressed further on whether he is now fully in charge of the party, the Niger State Governor said “No comment.”

During the meeting on Monday, Governor Bello confirmed he administered the oath of office on state chairpersons of the APC and they discussed issues about the party’s National Convention.

“The state chairmen took their oath of office today and we discussed progress made so far on convention and what needs to be done next so that we will achieve the March 26 date for convention,” he said.
