No fewer than seventeen Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have been neutralized in a fresh gun battle with troops of the Nigerian Army.

Reports obtained by Naija News on Monday claimed that the terrorists yesterday, stormed the Forward Operational Base at Damasak and met a fierce repellent from the troops of the Nigerian Army.

The troops are said to have received support by the air component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) which mounted a hot pursuit and closed up with the terrorists.

Having overpowered the terrorists, the army recovered motorcycles and weapons from the terrorists.

The fierce gun battle which reportedly lasted hours, happened along the Walada exit gate in the town at about 2:00 am, forcing some of the insurgents to flee.

The recent victory against the insurgents was confirmed to newsmen in Maiduguri, the state capital by OPHK theatre commander of the North-East Joint Task Force, Christopher Musa.

Naija News understands that Damasak is in the Mobbar local government area of Borno, located near the confluence of the Yobe River and Komadugu Gana River.

The axis is bordering the border with Niger 34km from Difa in Niger and three kilometres between Damasak and the border with Niger.

In another reports, a heated battle occurred between Abubakar Shekau led Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP in Borno.

The battle which left many of their fighters dead and injured occurred on Saturday February 5 in Dikwa local government area.

According to a post made by an authoritative source on such matters, Zagzola Makama on Twitter, the fight was as a result of the murder of Abou Sadiquo Burubouru, who was ambushed and killed by JAS Mujahideens around Gabara/Galta Hideouts close to Mandara Mountains on Feb 26.

ISWAP also seized nine Motorcycles from the Boko Haram JAS in the aftermath of the bloody gunbattle.

Commanders who participated in the attack included the Khayd of the Buduma’s led by Malam Abdul Faruk, an indigene of Chad Republic and his 2nd in Command one Malam Kaka Modou also a Buduma from Nguimi, Niger Republic.

The infighting between the two factions has led to several deaths of the fighters from both sides since the death of Abubakar Shekau.
