Putin Reacts As Wagner Group Declares War On Russian Military

The Russian Government has announced a partial ceasefire in Mariupol and Volnovakha cities of Ukraine.

Naija News reports that Russia’s Defence Ministry made this known in a statement on Saturday, March 5, 2022.

The ministry said the partial ceasefire, which would begin today, is to allow residents of two besieged cities to leave immediately.

Today, March 5, from 10 am Moscow time, the Russian side declares a regime of silence and opens humanitarian corridors for the exit of civilians from Mariupol and Volnovakha,” it said.

The Russian forces have taken over the two cities after days of attacks, with the soldiers cutting Mariupol’s electricity, food, water, heating and transportation.

Earlier, Mariupol’s Mayor, Vadim Boychenko revealed that the city was under siege by Russian forces after days of deadly attacks.

He called for a ceasefire and a humanitarian corridor for food and medicine.

For now, we are looking for solutions to humanitarian problems and all possible ways to get Mariupol out of the blockade,” he said.

Since President Vladimir Putin’s army invaded on February 24, Russia has pummelled Ukrainian cities, killed hundreds of civilians and assaulted Europe’s largest atomic power plant.

The invasion has drawn condemnation and severe sanctions from Western nations balancing the punishment of the Kremlin with fears of a hazardous escalation.
