Russia, Ukraine Agree To Ceasefire In Humanitarian Areas

The Negotiation between Russia and Ukraine on Thursday ended with the two countries agreeing to a temporary cease-fire in humanitarian areas.

The decision would allow the evacuation of citizens who needs attention and the delivery of aid to people affected by the heat of the war.

Ukrainian presidential advisor, Mykhailo Podolyak on Thursday in a post on Twitter disclosed that the decision was reached during a round of talks between Russian and Ukrainian officials.

He, however, stated that no agreement was reached on a nationwide ceasefire and armistice.

Podolyak wrote, “the second round of negotiations is over. Unfortunately, the results Ukraine needs are not yet achieved. There is a solution only for the organization of humanitarian corridors.”

According to Belarusian news agency Belta, Podolyak stated that the third round of talks will be held at the beginning of next week.

While Ukraine expressed disappointment about the negotiation, Russian negotiator Vladimir Medinsky claimed the negotiations yielded “substantial progress.”

Medinsky in his statement said, “The main issue we decided on today was the issue of saving people, civilians, who are in the zone of military clashes.

“Russia calls on civilians who find themselves in this situation, if military actions continue, to use these humanitarian corridors.”

Naija News had earlier that the two countries held a peace meeting at the border of Belarus.
