A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Yaba, Lagos State, has ordered that Azeez Adekunle Lawal, popularly known as Kunle Poly, be remanded in Ikoyi Prison.

Recall that the court had ordered Lawal, executive of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), to be remanded in the facility of the Nigeria Police Zonal Monitoring Unit, Zone 2 Headquarters, Onikan.

The Chief Magistrate, Linda Balogun had ordered that Lawal and two others be detained in police custody for 30 days over the mayhem that happened in Idumota in January.

The NURTW executive and two other defendants were then granted bail at the expiration of his remand.

Ruling on the case on Monday, the Chief Magistrate ordered that Lawal, Prince Idowu Onikoyi Johnson and Agboola Akeem Kosoko should be detained at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre for 30 days.

Balogun ordered their further remand pending advice from the Lagos State (Directorate of Public Prosecution DPP).

She ordered the further remand following an application by the prosecutor, Morufu Animashaun, attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Panti.

Balogun held that there was merit in the application and theĀ alleged offences contravene Section 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, and Section 3 of the Anti-cultism Law of Lagos State, 2021.

The court adjourned the case until March 28 for mention.
