Police Arrests Suspected IPOB Members In Rivers

Some unlucky gunmen fleeing from police operatives in Imo State have gotten themselves into more trouble after running into soldiers of the Nigerian Army during their flight.

It was reported that the gunmen, suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant unit, Eastern Security Network (ESN) had launched an attack on a Police Station in Njaba, Imo State.

Naija News gathered that the gunmen threw Improvised Explosive Devices ( IEDs) and shoot sporadically while attempting to gain entrance into the station around 1am on Tuesday.

However, they were resisted by the police operatives on duty led by the station’s Divisional Police Officer (DPO) with support from the Command’s Tactical Team who forced the IPOB/ESN gunmen to flee.

As the gunmen fled the scene of the attack, the Police also gave them a hot chase as confirmed by the spokesperson of the state police command CSP Michael Abattam.

Many of the insurgents sustained wounds and injuries during the encounter.

The gunmen however ran out of luck again as they encountered soldiers of the Nigerian Army at Njaba Bridge while fleeing from the Police.

The soldiers opened fire on them which forced the gunmen to abandon their operational vehicle and flee into the surrounding bushes.

Abattam stated that one abandoned pump action gun and the Sienna vehicle used for the operation by the gunmen were later recovered and taken to the station for further investigation by the Police.

He added that no life was lost, and no weapon was missing during the attack but the gunmen caused little damage to the perimeter wall fence of the station.
