The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has reacted to the derailment of a Lagos-Kano passenger train in Niger State on Saturday.

Naija News reports that the train derailed from its track at Bode Sadu-Jebba Section within the Jebba area in Niger State.

It was learned that the luggage vans at the rear were involved in the mishap and other parts of the train conveying passengers continued the journey.

In a statement on Monday by its Deputy Spokesman, Yakub Mahmood, the NRC said the derailment happened due to the vandalisation of the tracks.

Mahmood disclosed that no casualty was recorded in the tragic accident and the train arrived at Kano safely on Sunday.

The NRC official said the corporation’s engineers have already begun the repair of the affected portion of the tracks that was vandalised.
