2023 Presidency: Is Atiku Still Contesting? He Should Have Stepped Down - Okonkwo

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 general election, Atiku Abubakar, on Friday reacted as President Muhammadu Buhari signed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2021 into law.

Naija News had earlier reported that President Buhari assent to the bill on Friday after several calls from civil society organizations.

The signing ceremony of the electoral bill took place today inside the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja at about 12:30 pm.

The former Vice President in his reaction to the decision of Buhari to sign the bill charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to release the guidelines for the 2023 general elections.

He further stated that the guidelines released by the electoral body would help political parties and Nigerians commence the journey to choose their leaders in 2023.

Atiku in a series of posts on his Twitter account wrote, “Now that the legal framework for the 2023 elections is in place following President Muhammadu Buhari’s assent to the Electoral Bill, @inecnigeria needs to roll out the election guidelines in earnest.

“So that the political parties and Nigerians can fully commence the journey to choose their leaders in 2023.

“I wish to acknowledge the work of the legislature in bringing this law with innovations into fruition. I also pay tribute to the nudge of civil society and patriotic Nigerians in making this brand new Electoral Act a reality.”
