No less than 15 people have reportedly lost their lives in Thursday’s attack carried out by gunmen on several banks in Uromi, Edo state.

Recall that Naija News earlier reported that three banks were attacked by armed robbers in Uromi community, Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.

Earlier reports had it that no fewer than five persons, including a policeman, were reportedly killed during the robbery attack. However recent update reaching the publication has revealed that about 15 people have lost their lives in the attack.

The banks that were robbed by the gunmen include First Bank, Union Bank, and Unity Bank.

It was learned that the robbers gained access to the banks through the aid of dynamites and made away with huge cash.

The bank robbers shot sporadically into the air while the operation lasted, leaving residents to scamper for safety.

A resident in the area told reporters that the attacks were coordinated, adding that the robbers came prepared.

He said: “The armed robbers laid siege, right from Angle 90 Junction in Uromi, through Tazona Junction, with heavy gunfire and explosives, while three commercial banks were simultaneously attacked.

A metallic/silver Toyota Lexus 350 Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) was fully loaded with cash, which the armed robbers hurriedly escaped with while moving towards Ubiaza’s old road and shooting sporadically to scare passersby and prevent any challenge from security operatives.”

As of the time of filing this report, the state Police Spokesman, SP Bello Kontongs, confirmed the robbery attack.

Kontongs said the attack led to substantial damages to the affected banks, noting that details about the incident will be communicated later.
