President Buhari Makes Fresh Appointment

The statement credited to the Presidency that President Muhammadu Buhari will assent to the revised Electoral Act Amendment Bill in a matter of hours has stirred reactions online.

Naija News earlier reported that Presidential Spokesman, Femi Adesina, had said his principal will sign the reworked document within the next 30 days.

Speaking on Tuesday during an interview on Sunrise Daily, a programme on Channels Television, Adesina asked Nigerians to exercise patience and wait for the President to sign the bill.

He said: “He (Buhari) will sign it (the bill) any moment from now,”

“It could be today, it could be tomorrow, it could be anytime, but within the 30 days.”

Following the statement made by the presidential media aide, Nigerians have taken to social to berate the President for taking Nigerians for granted.

They asked President Buhari to immediately assent to the electoral bill in order to assure Nigerians that he means well for the country and its electoral process.

@VictorEF9 wrote: “Within 30 days, yet, he went on to say he will sign it in a matter of hours, not days or weeks. All these are just rhetorics...”

@Albazzini wrote: “My name would be Thomas today. President Buhari would not sign that electoral bill… in Capital letters..he would not sign it… simple.

@imafidon_joseph wrote: “We wish the President keep to his words by signing the Electoral bill for a free and fair election in 2023.”

@IkengaDavid wrote: “Whether the president signs the electoral bill or not Nigeria will move on, it will be to his own honour if he signs it.”

@PrinceFromArewa wrote: “Hours in APC government means a whole lot more than one could imagine…

“It might even translate to not signing it at all.”

@NsimaPeter wrote: “It’s always a waste of time when u interview this Adesina guy and it’s depressing to hear him talk like this.”
