Tragedy As Two Boys Drown While Trying To Recover Friend's Shoes In Jos Dam

In what could be described as a tragedy, two young children reportedly drowned at the dam in Rayfield Resort, Jos, Plateau State last weekend.

Reports made available to reporters claimed that the kids drowned while trying to recover one of their friend’s shoe pair that fell into the dam.

The victims were revealed as Michael Nyam (8) and Elijah Solomon (6).

Naija News learnt that the remains of the kids have been recovered and buried.

Sharing a bit of the awful incident, an eyewitness, Gyang Pwol told newsmen that the victims were both residents of Rayfield community.

He said: “They jumped into the deep water in the dam to rescue a shoe of their friend, unfortunately, the volume of water was too much.

“Before help could come, they got drowned,” the witness said.

No comment, however, has been made yet by the State Police Command regarding the incident as ASP Ubah Ogaba, the Police Public Relations Officer told journalists that the incident was not reported to the police.

Meanwhile, a 29-year-old petrol tank installer has died while working on a petrol tank at a filling station along Offa garage road in Kwara State.

The deceased identified simply as Ahmed reportedly came from Ibadan with his boss, Abdulbasit Oladimeji for the maintenance job but suddenly suffocated while carrying out the task.

Naija News reports that the incident occurred on Saturday, February 19.

Firemen were able to retrieve the deceased body from the tank. It was also reported that he did not put on any safety equipment while embarking on the task.

Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle said that the incident which occurred opposite Adisco office, Ajase-Ipo Road, Ilorin could have been avoided if the deceased had put on safety gear.
