Nigerian Man, Nicholas John killed in South Africa

The Nigeria Union South Africa (NUSA) has affirmed a report by Naija News that another Nigerian citizen was killed in South Africa by some thugs.

This news platform had exclusively reported earlier that Nicholas John, a Nigerian married to a South African lady, was beaten to stupor by a gang of South Africans over an alleged stolen laptop.

The victim had battled for his life at the Intensive Care Unit at Kimberly Hospital but was later confirmed dead by doctors.

Subsequent findings revealed that Nicolas’ South African wife had given birth to a child barely three months before the horrible attack that led to his death.

Confirming Naija News‘ report on the recent incident which could be seen as another Xenophobic attempt on Nigerian citizens residing in the African country, NUSA president, Collins Mgbo in a statement dated Thursday, February 17 recalled that the deceased was attacked by a mob at his shop in Kimberly in South Africa’s Northern Cape on February 12.

Stressing on the incident that led to Nicolas’ death, Mgbo said the Ogun State indigene was on February 11 attacked by a South African gang for buying a stolen laptop.

He was beaten alongside his friends, who they believed were accomplices, while the South African criminal, who stole the laptop and sold it to John, was left unharmed,” he explained.

Mr Mgbo further explained that the deceased had bought a stolen laptop from a South African. The owner of the stolen laptop apprehended the South African who stole the laptop, and he took them to the Nigerian, who had bought the stolen laptop.

Unfortunately, the Nigerian who bought the laptop had sold it to another Nigerian.

Nicolas having noticed that the case is becoming serious, had told the group that he didn’t have the laptop anymore but agreed to pay them for it.

The mob, however, could not hold on for the refund as they regroup and unleash mayhem on the Nigerian who later gave up the ghost at the hospital.

Naija News understands that South Africans have been making life unbearable for Nigerians in the country lately.

A recent statistics has showed that at least 128 Nigerians had been killed in the country since 2019.

A murder that preceded Nicolas’ happened on December 12.

One Olusola Solarin was killed by hoodlums, who attacked him and collected his money, Naija News recalls.

The deceased is said to be husband to one Doris Ikeri-Solarin who was recently elected as the Vice President of the Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA).

He was said to have been attacked in his shop also.

Sola, who was ambushed in his shop, did not struggle with the armed robbers. But after robbing him, they asked him to follow them and shot him dead,” SaharaReporters had reported.
