17 People Burnt To Death In Accident Along Lagos-Ibadan Highway

About 17 people have lost their lives in a petrol tanker explosion along the Lagos-Ibadan highway, Ogun state.

The incident which reportedly occurred around 5am on Friday, in the Isara area of the highway was confirmed by the Federal Road Safety Corps.

Florence Okpe, the spokesperson of the FRSC in Ogun stated that 17 bodies were recovered from the scene of the accident and 14 were burnt beyond recognition.

She also said that the tanker and Mazda bus had a head on collision and attributed the cause of the accident to reckless driving and violating traffic rules.

She said: “The total number of people involved is not ascertained, but a total 17 bodies have been identified.

“Ome male, one female, and one female child have been identified, while others were burnt beyond recognition and no injury sustained.”

The Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, Ahmed Umar, sharing his thoughts on the dire incident, said the accident could have been avoided if traffic rules and regulations were obeyed.
