The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said a final decision whether to embark on a strike or not will be taken soon.

The National Executive Council (NEC) has since yesterday been holding a meeting at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, Naija News reports.

It was gathered that Executive member of ASUU from institution like OOU, UNAAB, TASUED, UNN, AAU Ekpoma, AAUA, UNIABUJA, EBSU, UI and UNILORIN, among others are at the meeting.

As of the time of filing in this report, the NEC is yet to arrive on a decision on the expected industrial action.

A member of ASUU NEC told The Nation that “there will be a press conference tomorrow, and our position will be announced.

“But for now, the meeting is still ongoing and may span till night, and no one can say where the direction of the meeting is heading to yet.”

He said the final decision on strike will be decided through voting, and all the members present would vote either for — or against it.

On the demands of ASUU, the source said their demands include the issue of irregular/non-payment of salaries and subventions in state universities, refusal of Visitors to state universities to fund existing universities.

He stated that these Visitors rather keep on establishing new universities.

“The issue of IPPIS which the union is clamoring for it to be replaced with the University Transparency and Accountability System (UTAS),” he said.
