Former lawmaker, Sen. Dino Melaye has reacted to the issue of petrol scarcity reported in some cities of Nigeria alleged to be caused by the supply of adulterated petrol in the country.

Naija News had reported earlier that there were gridlock in some part of Lagos State as residents queue up to get petrol.

In a report earlier, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, mentioned that the supply of petrol with methanol quantities above Nigeria’s specification found in the supply chain was responsible for scarcity and long queues at filling stations.

Reacting to NMDPRA report, Melaye who represented Kogi West Senatorial district in the 8th Nigerian National Assembly, on Thursday took to his Twitter page to lambast the Standard Organisation of Nigeria and other quality control agencies in place for failing to do their jobs.

Berating the situation, Melaye said it is only God that’s protecting Nigerians.

The politician tweeted: “This country na wa!! You can imagine this corrupt fuel being aviation fuel which is possible.

“What happened to quality control, the standard organization of Nigeria and other quality assurance mechanisms in place.

“Na God dey protect us for this country. And nobody is resigning.”

Meanwhile, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) disclosed that four companies that brought adulterated Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) into the country are MRS MT Bow Pioneer LITASCO Terminal, Antwerp-Belgium, Emadeb/Hyde/AY Maikifi/Brittania-U Consortium MT Tom Hilde; Oando MT Elka Apollon; Duke Oil MT Nord Gainer.

The Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, said the PMS was imported from Antwerp in Belgium with quality inspectors failing to detect the high level of methanol.

The said adulterated petrol is understood to have damaged vehicles of Nigerians and caused long queues in Abuja, Lagos and some other states, Naija News reports.
