English Premier League club, Liverpool has commiserated with Egypt international, Mohamed Salah after losing the 2021 African Cup of Nations, AFCON, title to his teammate, Sadio Mane.

Naija News reports that Senegal yesterday won their first-ever AFCON title after beating Egypt on penalties.

Both national teams displayed an overwhelming passion for their nations at the 2021 AFCON final played at the Paul Biya Stadium, Olembé, in Cameroon last night.

The usual 90 minutes for football matches was not enough for a winner to emerge between the two countries. An additional extra time still couldn’t produce a winner as the game ended in a goalless draw.

However, the Senegalese team led by Sadio Mane took the show after brilliant penalty saves by Chelsea player, Edouard Osoque Mendy.

Naija News recalls that Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp had earlier told Mane and Salah that one of them will be happy after the final whistle while the other would be sad as a winner has to emerge.

Reacting hours after the AFCON final in a Twitter post on Monday, Liverpool on its official page tweeted: “Commiserations Mohamed Salah, you should be proud of an incredible tournament”.

Naija News reports that Ahmad in a series of tweets on his Twitter page said the Senegalese victory against the Pharaohs’ of Egypt was well deserved.

The Presidential aide, however, faulted the decision of CAF to award Senegalese and Liverpool player, Sadio Mane, the best player of the African tournament.

Ahmad believed that Cameroon’s striker and captain, Vincent Aboubakar is more deserving of the best player award than Mane.

Ahmad’s tweet read: “Congratulations to Senegal on winning the #AFCON2021. Well deserved.

“Sadio Mané awarded the best player of the tournament, how? Cameroon’s Aboubakar is by far the best player of this #AFCON2021. They should have given him his award.”
