AFCON 2021: Egypt Coach, Queiroz Reacts To Win Against Cameroon

Egypt head coach, Carlos Queiroz, has reacted to the Thursday night African Cup of Nations semi-final victory against the host nation, Cameroon.

In his post-match talks, Queiroz alleged that the match referee, Bakary Gassama had entered into Egypt dressing room to intimidate his staff ahead of the match.

Naija News reports that Egypt knocked out Cameroon last night in a penalty shootout.

The two countries had maintained their energy throughout the 90 minutes of the game and ended the lap with a goalless draw.

However, the Pharaohs defeated the Indomitable Lion 3-1 on penalties, after they both could not win in the added extra time play.

Naija News recalls that Queiroz was shown a red card just before the second half ended after his reactions had offended the referee.

The Egyptian coach slammed AFCON officials for issuing him a red card for speaking up for his side.

Speaking moments after the match, Queiroz told reporters: “Again, unfortunately, they send this type of referee to a game of this level, referees with no experience, no level, wanting to put on a show… It started right in the dressing room.

“We hadn’t started the game yet and he came to the locker room to intimidate our staff. But even against this, against all the decisions, which were always against Egypt, we were the best team in the second half and on penalties.”
