Former Governor of Enugu State, Okwesilieze Nwodo has said the likes of Senators Anyim Pius Anyim, Orji Uzor Kalu, and Rochas Okorocha are eminently qualified to rule the country in 2023.
Speaking on Thursday during an interview on Arise News, Nwodo said it is the time for an Igbo presidency, asking the parties to zone their presidential tickets to the South East.
He condemned the claims in some quarters that the Igbos are not competent enough to provide credible leadership to the country, saying that such claims are meant to deny Igbo presidency.
The former Peoples Democratic Party chieftain stated that Nigeria needs a president with integrity, one who will show a clear economic road map that will address the economic issues facing the country.
Nwodo said the country needs a leader such as Anyim and other Igbo presidential aspirants who can communicate, harness the economic diversities and potentials of the country.
He added that these Igbo aspirants have all the exposure and experience to fit into the above description and to govern Nigeria with the stated qualities.
Nwodo recalled that in 1999, when two frontline Igbo politicians, late Alex Ekwueme and Ogbonnaya Onu were poised to emerge, presidential candidates of their respective parties, PDP and ANPP.
He said they were made to concede their ambitions to assuage the injustice allegedly done to South West for the annulment of June 12 presidential elections, perceived to have been won by late MKO Abiola.
Nwodo stated that all these arrangements were made to establish that the nation has a conscience, stressing that the same conscience should be made for the Igbo.
