The Sokoto State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has apprehended at least thirty-seven banditry suspects in the state.

The police command confirmed in a statement released on Monday, January 31 that the suspects were nabbed in a recent raid carried out by the security operatives within 9 days.

Naija News understands that the arrested suspects were linked to the popular notorious gang leader, Turji, and they have all confessed to their complicity in bandit operation in the state and its environs.

Speaking at a press conference in Sokoto on Monday, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Operations, Ahmed Zaki, said the arrests were made between Jan. 20 and Jan. 29.

Zaki told newsmen that a team of the police command named Operation Sahara Storm identified and raided the bandits’ camps in Illela, Rabah, Isa and Goronyo Local Government Areas of the state.

During the operations, the police arrested no fewer than 37 suspects at different locations and several exhibits were recovered,” the police personnel confirmed to the press.

The DIG noted that the investigation into their cases is still in progress and the suspects will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is completed.

Names of some of the suspects were revealed as Musa Kamarawa, Abubakar Hashimu, Bammi Kiruwa, Zayyanu Abdullahi, Hardo Yunusa and Samuel Chinedu, among others, Naija News reports.
