As of the time of writing, almost 60,000 petitioners have joined Policy Shapers in seeking an end to the imposition of English Language proficiency test on every Nigerian seeking to study or migrate to the United Kingdom and some advanced countries. In the petition addressed to the Home Secretary of the United Kingdom, Priti Patel, the collective of campaigners argued that the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) should not be required of Nigerians given that their country is predominantly English speaking. They are also uncomfortable with the fact that the test costs over three times the national minimum wage, yet the result is only valid for two years.

#EndSARS: Why Buhari Cancelled Planned Subsidy Removal

Fresh details have emerged on why President Muhammadu Buhari suspended the plan to remove fuel subsidy for another 18 months.

Recall that the federal government had on Tuesday announced that the subsidy of fuel will last for another 18months, pending when an amendment in the Petroleum Industry Act will be made available to the National Assembly.

The announcement was made by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, Naija News reports.

A security source have now disclosed to The PUNCH that Buhari was advised by security agencies not to go ahead with the subsidy removal as planned.

Angela Nwaka Folarin, wife of the Senator representing Oyo Central in the National Assembly, Teslim Folarin, is dead.

A statement released by the spokesman for the Senator, Yekeen Olaniyi, said the trained lawyer died on Friday in the United Kingdom at the age of 47.

Biafra: Don’t Release Nnamdi Kanu – Asari Dokubo Tells FG

Former Niger-Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubu has urged the federal government of Nigeria to disregard appeals from some Igbo leaders pushing for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Dokubo also disagreed with those calling on the government to release Kanu, arguing that why would they want someone who has been accused of killing Igbo people and bringing chaos to their lands free.

Naija News reports the IPOB leader has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) from where he appears in court to face charges bordering on treasonable felony and terrorism levelled against him by the federal government.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has secured a $5 billion loan from AfrieximBank to fund the upstream sector of the country.

Naija News reports that NNPC Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari, made this known on Thursday via his official Twitter handle.

Kyari stated that the deal was an offshoot of the meeting between the NNPC team and the Chairman of the Board of Directors and President of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), Benedict Oramah, in Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday.

Naija News reports that the suspension was in reaction to a recent coup in the country.

The special adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity, Femi Adesina has lambasted those who blamed President Buhari for the shocking exit of the Super Eagles from the AFCON 2021 tournament.

The presidential spokesperson said Buhari did the right thing by calling the players to encourage them ahead of the game against Tunisia arguing that if the President had not called, many would also have labelled him an uncaring leader.

After winning all their group games to establish a perfect record, it will be recalled that the Nigerian senior football team suffered a shock 1-0 defeat in the hands of Tunisia which ended their AFCON 2021 campaign as they could not proceed to the quarter-final stage.
