1. Military Will Not Spare Persons, Groups Killing Innocent Nigerians – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari says the military will not spare any bandit or terrorist threatening the lives and property of innocent Nigerians.

Buhari made this known when he paid a visit to the palace of the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, on Thursday.

The Nigerian leader argued that his government will deal decisively with anyone destabilizing the peace, security of the country.

A statement released by the Presidential Spokesman, Femi Adesina, quoted President Buhari as saying that the country will ultimately defeat the forces of evil.

According to Adesina, Buhari commiserated with the government and people of Sokoto over the recent loss of lives and property as a result of outrageous attacks by bandits and other criminal gangs.

He said the President assured the people that he remains unrelenting in his resolve to put an end to heinous criminal activities in the state and other parts of the country.

2. Court Sends ‘Kunle Poly’, Other Lagos NURTW Executives To Prison

A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Yaba, Lagos State, has ordered an executive of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Azeez Adekunle Lawal, popularly known as Kunle Poly, and two others to be remanded in the facility of the Nigeria Police Zonal Monitoring Unit, Zone 2 Headquarters, Onikan-Lagos,

The Chief Magistrate, Linda Balogun on Thursday ordered that Kunle Poly, Prince Idowu Onikoyi Johnson and Agboola Akeem Kosoko should be remanded for 30 days over the last Thursday Idumota mayhem.

The executives of the NURTW were remanded after the police’s application for remand was moved by Barrister Morufu Animashaun.

3. Police Recruitment: Workers Protest, Shut Down PSC Headquarters

Workers of the Police Service Commission (PSC) on Thursday shut down the PSC headquarters, Abuja.

Naija News reports that the workers were protesting over the reported takeover of the ongoing recruitment of 10,000 constables by the force headquarters.

The workers are protesting the alleged takeover of the ongoing recruitment, lack of staff promotion and training of management.

It was gathered that the protesters forced the Permanent Secretary, William Alo, and directors out of their offices as they declared a three-day warning strike with effect from today (Thursday).

4. You Can’t Compare Buhari’s Achievements With Biden, Says Fashola

The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has rated the achievements of the Muhammadu Buhari administration above that of the Joe Biden government.

The former Lagos governor stated that President Buhari has achieved more in terms of infrastructure than his US counterpart.

Fashola made the submission on Thursday during the All Progressives Congress conversation series in Kano State.

The minister stated that as of December 2021, the Buhari government has completed 941 kilometers of roads across all states and geopolitical zones.

He added that 850 ongoing projects under his ministry including roads and bridges construction as well as houses in 34 states of the country will be completed before 2023.

5. “Only The Rotor Was Damaged” – Police Denies Helicopter Crash In Bauchi

The Nigerian Police Force has declared that its helicopter was not involved in a crash in Bauchi State but rather had troubles landing due to poor visibility.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CP Frank Mba who spoke on the matter on Thursday said when the helicopter which took off from Abuja arrived in Bauchi, there was no light on the runway at the airport.

He added that the pilot tried to communicate with the control tower but nobody was there to respond after which he had to proceed to control landing during which process the tail rotor of the aircraft was damaged.

Mba was reacting to an earlier report in a statement by the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) which revealed that a Bell 429 helicopter which belongs to the Nigerian Police crashed at the Bauchi airport around 7.30pm on the evening of Wednesday, 26th January.

The AIB report also said some of the six persons on board sustained some degrees of injury.

But the Police spokesperson said when the incident happened, no injury occurred to those onboard, and only the rotor of the aircraft which hit an obstruction was damaged with no major damage to the plane itself.

6. Two Dead, 20 Houses Destroyed In Delta Explosion

A tanker explosion on Thursday occurred in Ohoror community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Naija News reports that the explosion occurred following an accident involving a Liquefied Petroleum Gas tanker and a granite truck in the area.

It was learned that the granite truck rammed into the stationed LPG tanker at Ohoror junction axis of the east/west road which resulted in an explosion.

Two persons have been confirmed dead with over twenty houses and properties worth millions of naira destroyed in the tragic incident.

The drivers of the vehicles were said to be the casualties recorded in the explosion.

7. Miyetti Allah Sends Fresh Message To Gov. Ortom Over Benue Grazing Law

An appeal has gone out to Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom from the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) not to punish their ethnic group because of the line of business they are involved in.

Naija News understands the group spoke against the backdrop of the decision of the state government through the Benue State anti-grazing law to increase the fine on confiscated livestock from N2000 per cow to N50,000.

The Miyetti Allah said its members can’t afford such a heavy fine, adding that the law doesn’t apply to citizens of the state who are involved in the same business.

The Chairman of MACBAN in Benue State, Risku Mohammed called the attention of Governor Ortom to the issue during a press conference addressed in Makurdi, the state capital.

The chairman who spoke through an interpreter, his secretary, Ibrahim Galma said the new law is capable of chasing Fulani herdsmen away from the state.

8. Buhari Cancels Visit To Zamfara Over Poor Weather

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday cancelled his expected visit to Zamfara State, citing poor weather conditions.

The development was announced by the state Governor, Bello Matawalle, noting that Buhari who was scheduled to take off from Sokoto aboard a helicopter, had to postpone the visit due to poor weather.

Matawalle, “Mr President has spoken to me and asked me to convey his apologies to the good people of the state. Mr President said he would reschedule the visit to the state next week and the fixed date would be communicated to us in due course.

“Some of the security chiefs are currently in Katsina but can’t fly to Zamfara for the same reason. Based on this, we are extending our apology to the good people of the state for the postponement for reason beyond our control. We thank Mr President for his love for the state.”

9. Nigerians Owing ₦2.4tn On Electricity Bills – FG Report

The Federal Government of Nigeria has claimed that due to non-payment of electricity bills by residents and citizens, power tariff shortfalls has now surged to the tune of ₦2.4tn.

According to the report, the reported figures were a sum of unpaid bills for electricity consumed by users between 2015 and 2020.

Naija News reports that the claims were contained in the Federal Government’s latest report on Nigeria’s Power Sector Recovery Programme and Policy Interventions.

According to the government, the unpaid electricity bills by power consumers across all states in the six-year period caused an unsustainable financial burden in the power sector.

The report specifically noted that in 2017, electricity tariffs could not cover the cost, even at zero Aggregate Technical Commercial and Collection losses.

It could be recalled that the Federal Executive Council had in March 2017 approved the Power Sector Recovery Programme and made further amendments in 2019 with strategies to phase-out Federal Government support to the electricity market.

10. Biodun Oyebanji Wins Ekiti APC Primary Election With Over 100,000 Votes

Mr Biodun Oyebanji has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Ekiti state.

Naija News reports that APC conducted its primary elections in the state on Thursday to produce a flag bearer ahead of the June governorship election in the state.

Oyebanji polled 101,703 votes, while his closest challengers; Ojo Kayode had 767, Opeyemi Bamidele had 760 and Dayo Adeyeye polled 691 votes.

He will represent the APC in the June 18 governorship election in the state.

The results of the primary election from all the 16 LGAs in Ekiti state were announced by Governor Mohammed Badaru, chairman of the election committee, who declared Biodun Oyebanji as the winner.
