A 55-year-old human trafficker, Patricia Igbinovia has been remanded in prison by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos over a trafficking charge.

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke made the decision after the accused was arraigned on a six-count charge marked FHC/L/345c/21 by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Person NAPTIP.

Becky Jibo, the prosecutor informed the court that the defendant has been involved in the act between 2015, December 2016 and 2017 respectively and trafficked some ladies from Lagos to Malaga, Spain, for the purpose of prostitution.

She further stated that the offence is punishable under Section 18 and 27(b) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.

The prosecutor, therefore, demanded that the court remand the suspect in prison pending the time of the judgement as she stated that Igbinovia might not show up for trial because she has two passports, Vanguard reports.

The defendant’s counsel, Mr. Uche Okoronkwo, told the court that a bail application has been filed and urged the judge to grant the application because the suspect offence is a bailable one.

However, the judge granted the request of the prosecutor and ordered that the suspect be remanded in prison while the case was adjourned.
