Naija News reports that the state PDP primaries kick started today, Wednesday, January 26, as earlier scheduled.

The venue for accreditation in the primary election which is aimed at electing the flagbearer for the party in the governorship election in Ekiti state is being held at the Pope John Paul II Pastoral Centre in Ado-Ekiti.

The umbrella part had earlier named a five-member committee to oversee the conduct of a special congress in Ekiti State ahead of the July 18 governorship poll.

The party confirmed in a statement on Tuesday by its National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, that the team will be led by Akwa-Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel.

Other members are Nigeria’s former Minister of State for Defence, Olusola Obada, the Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Toby Okechukwu (Secretary), Michael Miku and Ibrahim Khalid, Naija News understands.

In another news earlier, Security agents in a joint operation arrested over five hundred armed thugs in Ekiti State.

The thugs according to reports were coming from Ibadan, the Oyo State capital to Ekiti, to disrupt the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, primary elections in the state.

They were, however, nabbed by a combined team of security agents in the state, Naija News reports.
