The personal assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on new media, Bashir Ahmad has denied trending rumours that the Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed has resigned.

Taking to the micro-blogging site on Monday evening, Ahmad debunked the rumours about the Finance Minister’s resignation as untrue.

He said one of the Minister’s closest aides told him on phone that nothing of such has happened.

He wrote: “There is a rumor going round that Honorable Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Shamsuna Ahmad has resigned. “The rumor is completely not true”, one of the Minister’s closest aides told me on phone.”

Meanwhile, the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government on Monday announced that there won’t be fuel subsidy removal anytime soon due to perceived difficulties associated with it.

The development was disclosed by the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed during a meeting with the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan and other principal officers of the Senate.

According to Ahmed, the Federal Government initially had plans to remove subsidy in July, after which they made provisions in the 2022 budget to cushion the effect but noted that the timing has become a huge challenge.

She further stated that the decision can not be taken until some steps are taken to protect the interest of Nigerians.
