Gunmen Kill Two Policemen, Burn Patrol Vehicle, Abduct Man In Jigawa State

Some yet to be identified gunmen have shot dead two officers of the Nigerian Police Force in Jigawa State and burnt down their improvised patrol vehicle.

Naija News gathered the gunmen also kidnapped a popular businessman in Kwalam town area of the state, Alhaji Ma’aru Abubakar.

The Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Lawan Shiisu who confirmed the development in a statement on Monday said the incident happened when the operatives responded to a distress call.

According to him, the gunmen had invaded the residence of Alhaji Abubakar located in Taura local government area of the state when the Polic were called in to save the situation.

The policemen upon arrival, engaged the criminals in a gun battle during which time two operatives identified as ASP Anas Usaini and Sunusi Alhassan were shot dead.

The escaped gunmen also abducted Abubakar during the attack that took place on Sunday, 23rd January, 2022.

The statement by the Police PRO however said a manhunt to free the victim and arrest the suspects has been activated.

He said: “On 23/01/2022, at about 0130hrs, a distress call was received that unknown gunmen invaded Kwalam town in Taura LGA.

“Upon receipt of the report, we mobilized a team of policemen and headed to the scene. On arrival, we engaged them in a gun duel and they fled.

“ASP Anas Usaini and Sunusi Alhassan were shot dead close to an improvised patrol vehicle which was set ablaze by the gunmen.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the hoodlums invaded the residence of Alhaji Ma’aru Abubakar ,60, of Kwalam town and abducted him.”
