Human rights activists and former lawmaker, Sen. Shehu Sani has asked for the immortalization of Hanifa Abubakar, a five-year-old girl kidnapped and killed by her school teacher in Kano school.

Naija News had reported earlier that Hanifa was abducted around 5:00 pm last Saturday in the Kawaji area of the state by men who lured her into their tricycle.

Subsequently, the state police command arrested one Abdulmalik Tanko, the prime suspect who is said to be the owner of the school where Hanifa’s body was found.

Reports had it that he masterminded the abduction and killing of the pupil. Family sources said he was among the first set of people who came to console her parents over the abduction.

“He was full of tears when he visited the family to console them over the abduction,” said the uncle of the girl, Suraj Sulaiman.

Naija News reports that Hanifa’s lifeless body was discovered at a private school in Tudunwada, Nasarawa local government area of Kano.

Kaduna State governorship hopeful, Shehu Sani has reacted to the sad incident in different posts on his Twitter page.

In his recent post, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP member asked Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to name a major street or a public building, or even a school after Hanifa.

Sani tweeted: “Dear, Governor Umar Ganduje, Immortalise Hanifa Abubakar by naming a major street or a public building or public school after her. Yours faithfully.”

Meanwhile, one of Hanifa’s uncles, Suraj Zubair had earlier told newsmen, before she was found dead and buried, that his niece was abducted shortly after she returned from an Islamic school along with other neighbours.

“The distance from her home to the Islamiyya school is not far. So children normally trek to the school in group on their own,” Zubair said.

Zubair’s narration continued thus: “According to the account of some children who witnessed the incident, the kidnappers came in a tricycle and offered to hitchhike them to their home. After dropping them off, they then asked Hanifa to enter again for an extra ride, and then zoomed off with her.

Naija News reports that the said school where the girl’s remain was found has since been shut down.
