Bayelsa Commissioner Abducted By Unknown Gunmen

The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Otokito Federal Oparmiola, has been reportedly kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

Naija News learned that Oparmiola was abducted from his room around 11 pm on Thursday during an invasion of his residence at Otuokpoti community, Ogbia Local Government Area of the state.

The commissioner was, however, whisked away to an unknown destination.

Before the abduction of the commissioner, the armed gunmen had fired several shots to announce their arrival and to scare the residents of the community away.

A spokesman for the State Police Command, SP Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday.

He said the command had launched a manhunt for the rescue of the victim and the arrest of the suspects, adding that no group had claimed responsibility for the commissioner’s abduction.

He said, “Preliminary investigation reveals that the kidnappers stormed the residence of Hon. Federal Otokito on 20th January, 2022 at about 2300hours and whisked him away in a waiting speedboat to an unknown destination.”
