Fayose Speaks On Having Anointed Candidate For Ekiti Governorship, Contesting 2023 Presidency

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose has stated that he has no preferred candidate for the 2022 governorship election in Ekiti State.

Fayose who spoke on Wednesday said his aim at the moment is to unite all party members and ensure the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wins the state governorship election.

He reiterated that anyone that wins the party primaries and emerges the PDP candidate, even if it is former Governor Segun Oni will get his full support.

On joining the race for the 2023 presidency, Fayose pointed out that he believes a person who wants to rule Nigeria must first govern his state.

This he stated in response to the question on joining the growing list of aspirants for the number one political seat in the country.

Naija News reports he made the submissions during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme.

He said: “I believe that anyone who want to rule Nigeria must first govern his state. My work is to reunite all members of the state and the party to win the governorship election, whether the person is my candidate or not. Even if former governor Segun Oni wins the primaries, I will support him.”

In other news, former Governor of Lagos State and 2023 Presidential hopeful, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has apologized to Nigerians over his recent misleading claim on the validity of Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs.

Naija News reports that the All Progressive Congress, APC, National Leader while addressing a group of party women in Abuja yesterday, told them to go and get a new PVC ahead of the 2023 elections because the one in their possession has expired.

Tinubu’s claim had since received a series of backlash from stakeholders who described the politician’s report as misleading and untrue.

Reacting in a statement, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, which is saddled with the nation’s electoral matters, said Tinubu’s information was wrong.

The commission stated categorically that PVCs don’t come with an expiry date, Naija News reports.

In response to the backlash that followed the misleading information, Tinubu’s media team issued a statement saying the APC chieftain flopped when he used the word ‘expire’ instead of stating that PVCs may have to be updated.
