863 Terrorists Surrendered To Troops, 49 Killed In 14 Days – DHQ

No fewer than eight hundred and sixty-three terrorist fighters reportedly relinquished themselves to troops in fourteen days.

The Defence Headquarters confirmed this in Abuja on Thursday while giving an update on operations of the armed forces across the country, Naija News reports.

According to the Director Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Bernard Onyeuko, the troop’s operation Hadin Kai killed 37 of the terrorists while carrying out a raid recently.

He said 17 others were apprehended while 21 assorted arms and 117 rounds of different calibres of ammunition were recovered from the dreaded group.

The Army General said the surrendered terrorists have been properly profiled and handed over to appropriate authorities for necessary actions.

Onyeuko noted that four gun trucks were also captured from the terrorists while 16 abducted civilians were rescued within the period.

He said: “The Air Component also scored devastating hits on terrorists’ stronghold at Arina Chiki village in the Lake Chad Basin in Borno State.

“This resulted in the neutralisation of scores of the terrorist, while several others escaped with various degrees of injuries.”

Onyeuko said in a similar development, troops of Operation Hadarin Daji eliminated 12 bandits and arrested 15 with 16 assorted arms and 136 rounds of different calibres of ammunition as well as 114 rustled livestock recovered, Naija News reports.

Meanwhile, bandit terrorists have slammed a ₦24m tax levy on nine villages cutting across four districts of Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

It was gathered that the terrorists demanded different fees from each of the communities ranging from ₦500,000 to ₦5m per community.

According to a report monitored by Naija News on Daily Trust, the ransom letters were delivered to the traditional heads of the affected communities by kidnap victims released by the terrorists.

The affected communities have been identified as Gaude, Tungar Gebe, Wawan Iccen Ibrahim, Wawan Iccen Salihu, Galle, Nannarki, Ruwan Kura, Gangara and Yargalma, Naija News reports.
