I Should Be Commended For Payment Of Salaries, Pensions - Ayade

The Governor of Cross River, Professor Ben Ayade has hinted that he would be joining the race to become the next President of Nigeria in 2023.

According to Ayade, if the All Progressives Congress (APC) sees him as a candidate of choice and the party’s ticket is zoned to his region, then he will be ready to join the race to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

Naija News reports the Governor made the submission on Wednesday when he featured as a guest on Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ breakfast programme.

Ayade who further described himself as a loyalist and conformist said he would comply with whatever decision taken by his party on choosing a candidate for the 2023 presidential election.

He said: “Let me say, yes and no; if the (APC) family finds that I am fit and proper, yes. If the family finds that there is a better option and that option fits into the zoning (arrangement), of course, I will stand by the party position. I am a conformist; I stand with the system. I have never been an aberrant, I work with the system.”

Meanwhile, the immediate past Director-General of Progressive Governors’ Forum, Salihu Lukman has revealed why he decided to resign from his position.

Lukman, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said he resigned due to the failure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership to tolerate criticism and be democratic.

He advised the APC to ensure that the new executives that will be elected at the national convention will take criticism and not be dictatorial or show tyrannic posture.

The APC chieftain stated that another reason he left his position was to continue to freely hold the party accountable to the principles of internal democracy.
