Eguavoen Reacts As Super Eagles Battle To A Goalless Draw Against Black Stars Of Ghana

Super Eagles interim head coach, Augustine Eguavoen has revealed that the Nigerian team will be without defender Chidozie Awaziem for their second Group D match against Sudan on Saturday.

He made the disclosure during a press conference on Friday ahead of the Eagles’ second group stage clash against the Falcons of Jediane.

The coach however debunked rumours that Awaziem will be missing from the game due to COVID-19 infection, disclosing that the Turkey-based player is out due to injury.

On when the defender is expected to return to action, the coach said it is out of his hands but expects it to be soon as the medical team is monitoring the situation.

“Hopefully soon, that is beyond my control. I think if the medical staff were here now they will certify him fit to be back on the pitch,” he told his press conference on Friday.

“Awaziem is still down, he has an ankle injury as I know and he is going to be back very, very soon,” he said.

Naija News recalls the Nigerian senior national team recorded a brilliant 1-0 victory against the Pharaohs of Egypt in their opening Group D match and will take on Sudan on Saturday for their second encounter at the tournament.

The match will be played at the Roumdé Adjia Stadium, Garoua in Cameroon.
