Nigeria’s former Minister of Agriculture, Akinwunmi Adesina has denied endorsing the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, for president in 2023.

Adesina, who now heads the African Development Bank (AfDB), made the denial while reacting to a quote on social media endorsing Tinubu, which was attributed to him.

Reacting, Adesina’s spokesman, Victor Oladokun refuted the statement that was attributed to the AfDB president, describing it as “false, mischievous and fraudulent”.

Oladokun stated that his principal did not make the statement or endorse Tinubu’s presidential ambition, urging the public to disregard the quote.

He said: “For the avoidance of doubt, no such statement or endorsement has been made by the President of AfDB.”

Naija News had reported that the former Lagos state governor had on Monday confirmed he has informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his presidential ambition.

The APC chieftain disclosed this to State Correspondents after a meeting at the Presidential Villa with Buhari.

While noting that he is yet to publicly disclose his ambition, Tinubu stated that he was still in consultations with various individuals and groups across the country.

Tinubu stated that his ambition to be President has been a life-long ambition, noting that what he did in Lagos in his time as Governor, he has the capacity to do in the entire country.

The APC national leader refused to comment when asked about the presidential ambition of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

On why he would not remain a kingmaker, Tinubu said nothing stops a kingmaker from becoming the king unless he has committed murder.
