2023 Presidency: Osinbajo Storms Ibadan For Consultations

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has jetted out to Ghana to attend an Extraordinary Summit of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Laolu Akande, the vice president departed Abuja on Sunday and will be representing President Muhammadu Buhari at the ECOWAS meeting.

Akande disclosed that the ECOWAS leaders will deliberate on the political crises in Mali and Guinea and ways to resolve the situations.

He revealed that Osinbajo is accompanied by the Minister of State Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Zubairu Dada, and will return to the country on Sunday, January 16, 2022.

It was gathered that this meeting of the ECOWAS leaders follows previous meetings held to solve the political crises in Mali and Guinea.

Recall that President Buhari had charged the transitional government to ensure the speedy return of democratic rule in Mali.

He gave the charge on Thursday when he hosted the representative of the Mali transitional government, Col. Abdoulaye Maiga at the State House in Abuja.

Maiga, who is the Malian Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation was led to the State House by former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan who is a special ECOWAS envoy to Mali following the military take over of power in the West African Nation.

The President further pledged Nigeria’s support to Mali in compliance with the rules set by ECOWAS.
