Arsenal's Aubameyang Returns To England For Medical Examination

Arsenal striker and Gabonese international, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a chat with AFP on Thursday, Gabon head coach, Patrice Neveu said Aubameyang and team-mate Mario Lemina contracted the virus shortly after arriving in Cameroon for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Neveu added that assistant coach Yala Anicet tested positive after taking a lateral flow test and are awaiting the results from a PCR one.

He, however, disclosed that the three individuals have gone into isolation and would miss the country’s opening match against Comoros on January 10.

They underwent a PCR test and are isolating in their hotel,” Neveu said.

Naija News reports that Gabon are in Group C and would play Morocco, Ghana, and Comoro in the group stage.

This development follows the players’ mutiny over unpaid allowances and bonuses by the Gabonese FA before they made the trip from Dubai to Yaounde.

Gabon are back on the continental stage after missing the 2019 edition in Egypt and their best record in the competition was in the 1996 and 2012 editions when they reached the quarter-final stage.
