Ahead of the 2022 Ekiti governorship election, the Peoples Democratic Party has shifted its governorship primary in the South West state.

Naija News had reported that the opposition party had fixed January 18 for the conduct of the governorship primary election in the state while the state gubernatorial election is scheduled to hold on June 18, 2022.

In a letter signed by its Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu; and National Secretary, Senator Nnaemeka Anyanwu, the PDP unveiled the new date for the primary as January 26.

The letter, dated January 4, 2022, was addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

According to the opposition party, the postponement became necessary due to unforeseen circumstances beyond its immediate control.

In the letter, the PDP noted that its ward congress to elect the three-member ad hoc ward delegates had been shifted from January 7 to January 15.

It further stated that the local government congresses to elect one national delegate, as well as one person living with disability from each local government area in the state, has been moved from January 15 to January 22.

This is understood that eight of the 17 aspirants who are contesting to succeed Governor Kayode Fayemi on the platform of the PDP are women.

Two leading aspirants out of the women are the former Minority leader, Senator Abiodun Olujimi and Mrs Olumide Ojo.

Other notable aspirants are former Governor Segun Oni, former Deputy Governor Olusola Eleka, Albert Adaramodu; Aribisala Adewale and Ayodeji Ogunsakin.
