Fears In Rivers As Vigilante Group Kill Nigerian Air Force Officer

Members of a local vigilante group in the Omuanwa community of Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State are reportedly on the run after they allegedly killed an officer of the Nigerian Air Force.

Though the state police command said it is yet to be briefed about the incident, reports made available to newsmen on Wednesday (today), have it that the NAF officer was shot with a pump gun.

Naija News learnt that the deceased had travelled home to celebrate Christmas and was yet to return to his duty post until the unfortunate incident happened.

A source who disclosed details of the incident told Daily Post that members of the local vigilante had “gone on rampage chasing and forcing some youths in the community to take an oath”.

In the process, the deceased’s brother was reportedly apprehended and locked up in the cell of the local vigilante.

It was reported that the late NAF officer had accosted the vigilante members for allegedly harassing his brother.

Narrating further, the source alleged the officer was shot with a pump-action gun and died on the way to a hospital. Seeing that the officer had lost his life, the vigilante members reportedly fled the area as some irate youths went after them for vengeance.

All efforts to reach out to the leadership of the vigilante proved abortive as their lines were switched off.

When contacted on the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the command, Grace Iringe-Koko, told reporters that the command has no details of the incident yet but promised to issue a statement as soon as she is briefed about the incident.
