A new president has emerged for the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria (SCSN) in the person of Sheikh AbdurRashid Hadiyatullah.

The emergence of Sheikh Hadiyatullah was confirmed in a statement on Monday by the Secretary-General of the council, Nafi’u Baba Ahmed during a press conference in Kano State.

According to the statement, the emergence of Hadiyatullah follows the death of the council’s former president, Sheikh Ibrahim Datti Ahmed whom Naija News reports gave up the ghost on Thursday, 30th December 2021 after a brief illness.

The statement added that the emergence of the new leader is in total submission to the will of Allah and in compliance with the constitution of the council.

“We pray Allah SWT to grant him the wisdom and guidance to further the noble objectives of the council, and in particular the unity and progress of the Muslim community,” he said.

Until his elevation to the position of president, Naija News understands Sheikh Hadiyatullah was the council’s vice president.

The council further prayed for the repose of the soul of its late leader, praying Allah to forgive the deceased his short comings and grant him eternal rest.
