Popular Islami cleric and elder statesman, Dr Ibrahim Datti Ahmed has been reported dead.
It was gathered the President-General of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria (SCSN) died on Thursday morning in Kano State after a brief illness.
The prominent medical doctor and former presidential aspirant of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) is survived by one wife and 10 children.
Funeral prayers were held for him at Alfurqan Mosque located at Nassarawa government reserved area (GRA) in Kano state.
In a post on Facebook on Thursday, SCSN mourned the late cleric.
It wrote: “Innalillahi wa inna ilayhi Rajihun the death of Dr Ibrahim Datti Ahmed was just announced until his death he was the President Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria (SCSN). may Allah forgive his shortcomings and make Aljannah Firdaus his final abode. Allahumagfirlahu Allahumathabithu.”
Recall that in 2013, the late Ahmed rejected to serve on the committee constituted by former President Goodluck Jonathan to dialogue with members of Boko Haram over what he described as a lack of sincerity on the part of the government.
