Several reactions have trailed the comments made by Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State asking citizens to engage in self-defence.

In a media parley with reporters on Tuesday, Masari had asked residents of the state to get weapons to defend themselves and family members from bandits attacks.

The governor promised that his government will assist residents to get approved weapons for self-defence and ensure such weapons are registered with the police to avoid abuse.

Reacting to Masari’s comments, President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof. George Obiozor, condemned the advice given by the former Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Obiozor stated such a suggestion shows that both the federal and state governments are confused, adding that governance of confusion was now complete in the country.

With that proposal, the problem of Nigeria is getting confused. With that, governance of confusion is complete,” he said.

Also reacting, spokesman of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Emmanuel Yawe, said the call by the governor will lead to a further breakdown of law and order.

He said: “If he (Masari) does it within the provision of the law that will be okay. However, it will be a tragedy if a governor will do anything that will lead to a further breakdown of law and order.”
