Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has denied a claim by the leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, Edwin Clark, that he hates the people of Niger Delta and the region.

Naija News learned that Clark in an open letter to Obasanjo had claimed that the former President still has disdain and insincerity for the people of Niger Delta region.

Clark said Obasanjo’s comments that the oil found in the Niger Delta does not belong to the people of the region represents his continuous hate against Niger Delta.

Replying to the PANDEF leader in a letter dated December 28, Obasanjo said Clark was wrong for accusing him of having disdain for the people of Niger Delta.

In the letter titled “My response to the open letter by Clark”, Obasanjo said Niger Delta cannot lay claim to the crude oil found in the region.

The former Nigerian leader added that the mineral resources found in any particular state or territory do not belong to the area of location, but to Nigeria.

Obasanjo stated that some of the words used by Clark to describe him are offensive and uncouth, asking the Ijaw leader to retract the letter.

He said: “Let me proceed with the most basic constitutional fact that you cannot have two entities in a sovereign State.”

“Those who purchase crude from Nigeria enter into a contractual relationship with Nigeria and not the Niger Delta.”

“I have never shown any anger, distraught with Niger Delta region nor any part of Nigeria.

“Some of the languages you have deployed to describe me in your letter are offensive, uncouth and I totally and completely rejected them.

“I am not inconsistent, hypocritical, and nor am I anybody’s lackey.

“You use your own yardstick to judge others. I hope you think and adjust. Negotiation achieves better results than dictation.”
