Terrorists loyal to the Islamic State in West African Province (ISWAP) are planning to attack the Damboa and Chibok communities of Borno State.

The alarm was raised by some residents of the area who claimed they have noticed gathering similar to what obtains when the terrorists want to launch an attack.

Sources from Borno who spoke to The Cable on Tuesday said the insurgents are moving towards Gumsuri Litawa which is an area between Chibok and Damboa.

According to the sources, the movements have been observed since Christmas eve, December 24.

“When they gather like that, they start to infiltrate the towns and before you know it, they have launched the attack,” one of the residents said.

As of the time of filing this report, a reaction could not be obtained from the army spokesperson, Onyema Nwachukwu.

Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, on Monday claimed that his principal can end insurgency before the end of his tenure in 2023.

This is coming a few days after the President asked Nigerians to judge his administration over the security challenges in the country.

Buhari made this claim during his visit to Borno State, where he commissioned projects executed by Borno State Government and a business tycoon Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi.

Adesina while speaking on the security situation in the country said Buhari-administration could take out people behind insurgency within the next 17 months remaining.

The Presidential spokesman while speaking on Channels TV recounted how the Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka were taken out after 28 years of rebellion.
