Breaking: Abba Kyari In Fresh Trouble As NDLEA Declares Him Wanted

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has finally submitted the probe panel report on the suspended Head of the Intelligence Response Team, DCP Abba Kyari, to the Police Service Commission (PSC).

Naija News reports that the commission said that it had not received the report which contains disciplinary recommendations on Kyari from the police boss.

In an interview with the Punch at the weekend, PSC spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, said that the recommendations were made by the Joseph Egbunike-led panel in its report submitted to the IGP on August 26, 2021.

Ani said the commission only received the communication that the IGP had received the probe panel’s report and that the report is been worked on.

He had said: “What we received was the communication to the commission that the IG had received the Joseph Egbunike panel’s report and that they were working on it. So, it is not like they have sent a complete report to the commission; the commission is still expecting it from the police; they have not also made their recommendations known to the commission.

But in an interview with The Nation, a member of the PSC, Braimoh Adogame Austin, said the police boss has forwarded the panel’s report to the commission.

Austin disclosed that the commission will commence deliberations on the report this week and make its decision known to the public.

The PSC member said the recommendations will inform the commission’s decision and also determine Kyari’s future in the force.

He said: “The IGP has submitted Abba Kyari’s report to the PSC and deliberations on the matter will commence this week. I can’t tell you when it was submitted but it’s now with the commission.”

Recall that Kyari was suspended and probed over his alleged role in a $1.1m fraud committed by billionaire fraudster, Ramon Abbas, better known as Hushpuppi.

Kyari had earlier been indicted by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), which recommended that the police officer be extradited to the United States to face trial.

His suspension was recommended by the IGP, who also constituted a probe panel headed by Joseph Egbunike to investigate the allegation.

After three weeks of investigation, Egbunike submitted the panel’s report to the police IGP.

Baba had on August 2 constituted the Special Investigation Panel and on August 26, Egbunike submitted that panel’s findings to the police boss.
