Details Of Buhari's Discussion With President Erdogan Emerges

The details of the bilateral meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, have emerged.

Naija News reports that the two leaders met in Istanbul on Friday to discuss the security challenges in Nigeria and how Turkey can help support the fight against insecurity.

Buhari in a statement on Friday by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, disclosed that the Turkish government has offered to assist Nigeria in dealing with the security challenges facing the nation.

President Buhari stated that Nigeria has a lot to gain from Turkey because the Arab country has practical experience in dealing with insecurity.

The Nigerian leader asserted that the relationship between the two countries will continue to grow for mutual benefits, expressing confidence that Nigeria stands to gain from Turkey in areas of defence and health.

Buhari said: “Turkey has practical experience dealing with challenges over the years and Nigeria stands to gain from that.

“I wish to express my appreciation for the special invitation for this meeting and to express my happiness with your offer of assistance in dealing with the challenges facing us.

‘‘I await the reports of officials and the ministers as they hold meetings with their counterparts. I assure you that I will endorse all their positive recommendations.”

In his remark, Erdogan promised Buhari that Turkey is ready to assist Nigeria in the fight against bandits, Boko Haram insurgents and other criminal elements.

He said: “Turkey understands the challenges facing Nigeria and its needs, and we are ready to assist you to meet those needs especially in the area of defence.

‘‘I am happy Nigeria is stepping up cooperation with other nations in areas of defence and health, and we are ready to cooperate with you on these areas and more.”
