A twelve-year-old boy, Jubril Aliyu who was a victim of immense abuse from his own father who chained him down for about two years has been fully rehabilitated.

The boy was said to have been chained by his father, Mallam Umar Aliyu in Kebbi State but help came the way of the poor boy when an NGO discovered his ordeal in August last year and brought it to the attention of the state government.

He was then taken away from the custody of his father by the government on August 14, 2020, and handed over to the management of the Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Birnin-Kebbi, Kebbi State for medical care and rehabilitation.

After over a year under the watchful eyes of several professionals, the boy is now fully rehabilitated and ready to be reunited with his family, Naija News gathered.

The Chief Medical Director of the Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Dr. Aminu Haliru Bunza who spoke to newsmen during the official handing over of the boy to his parents said experts from within and outside Nigeria including from LUTH Lagos and UCH Ibadan attended to the boy and have all certified him fit and ready to be reintegrated back into the society.

“Today is a remarkable day for us, we thank Almighty Allah who has brought us to witness this day. A child known as Jubril is being handed over to his family after staying with us for 15 months,” he said.

“When he was brought in here, the child was in a pathetic situation. We give glory to Allah, we are able to rehabilitate him, took good care of his health, his nutrition, mental status and he was able to undergo a lot of investigation

“I want to announce to you here that apart from the medical support he will be given, the State government has also insured him under the Kebbi State Health Insurance Scheme (KESEMA), therefore, from today onward, whatever he needs till he reaches the age of maturity shall be provided by the State government,” Dr. Bunza stated.
