Omicron: Nigeria Didn’t Record New COVID-19 Death – NCDC

Following the discovery of the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus in the country, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says no single COVID-19 death was recorded on Saturday.

In a statement released on its social media pages on Sunday, the NCDC disclosed that 54 new infections were recorded in seven states and the FCT on Saturday.

According to the Centre, the newly recorded cases shows that there is a decrease of 143 from the 197 cases recorded on Friday.

The NCDC added that total COVID-19 infections recorded across the country now stand at 214,567. It stated that out of the 214,567 total national infections, 207,427 cases have been treated and discharged from hospitals.

The centre revealed that 24 new cases were recorded in Lagos, eleven new cases were discovered in Oyo state, FCT recorded six cases, three cases were recorded in Kwara state and Rivers state each, Bauchi and Delta states recorded two cases each, while Kano and Ogun states recorded one infection each.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom on Saturday banned all flights from Nigeria following the three cases of the Omicron Variant detected in the country.

This is coming after the Canadian government imposed a travel ban on Nigeria after detecting the variant from travellers who landed in the country from Nigeria.

The UK Mission in Nigeria in a statement on Saturday said that from 4 am on 6 December, Nigeria will be added to the red list for international travel to England.

It stated that the ban follows 21 recent cases of COVID-19 variant B.1.1.529 (Omicron) linked to travels from Nigeria.
