Oyo State Govt Reacts To Allegation That Two Students Were Turned To Yam By Suspected Ritualist

The Oyo State government has debunked viral reports that two of its students were turned into yams by a suspected ritualist.

The government said it swung into action after the report went viral on social media and other news platforms of a suspected ritualist who was mobbed and burnt to death after allegedly turning two secondary school students to yams.

Naija News recalls a video emerged across social media on Friday morning of a middle-aged man who was arrested by the angry residents of Ashi, in Oyo State after he allegedly turned two students of Bashorun High School into tubers of yam.

In the video, the man was tied and interrogated as the efforts made by the residents to prevail on him to turn them back proved to be abortive.

His inability to provide concrete answers was said to have made the angry residents set him ablaze.

However, the Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Abiodun Abdulramah has clarified that no student from the school was involved in any ritual process as feared.

The Commissioner explained that he has visited the school on a fact-finding mission and the school management confirmed that none of its students were missing.

While calling for calm, Abdulramah assured residents that security operatives have been informed and are already investigating the matter to unravel the true situation of things.

Meanwhile, the chairman, Kaduna State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. John Joseph Hayab has confirmed the freedom of at least seventy abducted persons in the state.

The clergyman told newsmen in a statement on Friday that the freed kidnap victims include members of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Kakau Daji, who have whisked away on Sunday, 31st October 2021.

While commending the efforts of traditional rulers and stakeholders in ensuring the release of the victims, Hayab challenged Christians and Nigerians to be prayerful against the insecurity that has brought untold unrest and hardship to the people.
