Police shoot Truck Driver in Osun state

An officer of the Nigerian Police Force has reportedly killed a truck driver in Osogbo, Osun State.

The incident Naija News learnt happened around the Ota-Efun area of the state capital on Friday morning.

It was gathered that the deceased was driving a Shekeena Global borehole drilling truck before the vehicle broke down along Ikirun way around 10:30 am today.

A team of policemen reportedly arrived at the location while the driver and his crew were trying to fix the damaged truck. They are said t have blocked the road while maintaining the vehicle.

Daily Post quoted an eyewitness as saying that the police officers came down from a mini commercial bus (Korope) and hit the driver with a shovel under the truck before he was shot with a pistol in the chest.

According to the eyewitnesses, the security men immediately took off their uniforms fled the scene after committing the crime.

Naija News learnt that the incident had caused a commotion in the area and that the police also fired guns and teargas in the air to scare away the angry mob.

Meanwhile, the corpse of the driver was taken away by the police. However, the chairman of NURTW Oroki park Osogbo, Adewale Kareem (Asiri Eniba) was on the ground after hours, to pacify the angry protesters and encourage them to open the blocked road.

No comment has been received, however, from the state police command as calls reportedly pushed to the spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola, were not responded to as at the time this report was filed.
