11 Killed, Others Missing As Fulani, Tiv Clash In Taraba

A communal clash between Fulani and Tiv people in Taraba State has resulted in the death of at least eleven persons, Naija News understands.

The chaos reportedly started after a Fulani who was returning from a village market got robbed and killed by suspected Tiv hoodlums.

The incident happened on Tuesday, November 30 in the Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba.

The event led to reprisal as the Fulanis grouped themselves and attacked Tiv villagers, killing no fewer than 10 people.

A resident, David Korbee, who lost his brother in the Tuesday attack, told journalists that two of his female children were still missing.

“We recovered six bodies yesterday (Tuesday) and buried them today (Wednesday). This morning, the vigilantes found four more bodies in the bush and we intend to bury them this afternoon.

“As we speak, many people are still missing and we can’t tell whether they are alive or dead. The Fulani attackers are hunting and killing people on their farms, so it is difficult to ascertain the actual casualty figures,” PUNCH Metro quoted Korbee as saying.

Confirming the incident, a leader of the Bantaje Chiefdom, Yahaya Rufai, in whose domain the attack happened, revealed that six farmers were killed at the boundary between Gassol and Wukari local government areas.

However, no statement has been made by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdullahi Usman, as he did not respond to calls and messages sent to him.
