1. 2023: Times Are Hard, Let APC Continue Fixing Nigeria – Okechukwu

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Osita Okechukwu has told Nigerians to reject the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2023 general elections.

Okechukwu who is the Director-General, Voice of Nigeria (VON) argued that the PDP has had its chances in the past but blew the opportunity, hence the party can no longer be trusted to lead Nigerians to the promised land.

He added that it is better to allow the APC to continue its work of fixing Nigeria despite the hard times the country is experiencing at the moment.

The VON DG went further to recall how the PDP allegedly embezzled billions of dollars that were meant to be used in setting up Greenfield Refineries in Lagos, Kogi, and Bayelsa during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

2. Armed Bandits Attack Prison In Jos, Plateau State

The Nigeria Correctional Service (prison) located in Jos, the Plateau State capital has come under attack from gunmen suspected to be bandits.

Information gathered by Naija News says the attackers who stormed the facility on Sunday afternoon, shot heavily forcing nearby residents to scamper for safety.

Confirming the attack, the spokesperson of the Plateau state police command Gabriel Ogba however said security operatives have taken control of the situation.

Speaking on the incident, the controller of corrections (PRO) Francis Enobore said the attackers opened fire on the security operatives guarding the correctional centre before they gained entrance.

Enobore however added that the attackers were trapped inside the facility as reinforcement from sister security agencies arrived before they could exit.

3. Justice Mary Odili: Police Arrest Immigration Officer

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has arrested a senior immigration officer, Abdullahi Usman, over the raid on the home of Justice Mary Odili.

It was gathered that the immigration officer will be taken to court this week alongside a journalist, banker, lawyer, a fake policeman and seven others.

Recall that 15 suspects were arrested and paraded for allegedly taken part in an illegal raid on the home of Odili, Nigeria’s second most senior judge.

Speaking to PUNCH on Sunday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, said approval had been given for all the suspects to be arraigned.

4. Biafra: DSS Speaks On Killing, Torturing IPOB, ESN Members

The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied the allegation that its operatives are killing and brutalizing some people suspected to be Biafra agitators.

Specifically, the DSS on Sunday denied allegations that its operatives target suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) or its militant wing, Eastern Security Network (ESN), and force false confessions out of them.

The DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya was quoted to have debunked the accusations in reaction to the allegation published in a report by an online news platform.

5. CBN Making Efforts To Ensure Nigerians Adopt eNaira – Emefiele

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has said efforts were be made to allow faster adoption of the eNaira app by Nigerians.

Naija News reports that the Delta State-born banker stated this at the 56th Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) Annual Bankers’ Dinner held at the Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos, on Friday night.

The CBN governor also disclosed that the country’s digital currency, eNaira, Application recorded about 600,000 downloads in less than four weeks after its launch by President Muhammadu Buhari on October 25.

Speaking further, he said the CBN has always been focused on creating a payment system that would provide cheap, efficient, and faster means of conducting payments for most Nigerians.

6. How Police Gunned Down Notorious Bandit Terrorist Responsible For Abuja-Kaduna Road Attacks

Details have emerged on how notorious bandit terrorist leader Yellow Magaji, popularly known as Arushe, was gunned down by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
Naija News recalls that the terrorist activities had for the past one week constituted a serious security threat and unnecessary nuisance to innocent travellers on the Abuja-Kaduna road.

The criminals had killed a former Director of the FCT, abducted his police orderly and many others during last Sunday’s attack on the highway.

Following the attacks, special forces were deployed to track down the bandits.

In a statement, the Kaduna Police Command said Yellow Magaji who lead the bandits to attack the highway was gunned down at Sir Joe Guest House located at 8, Sajo street, Unguwan Maigero area of Sabon Tasha in Chikun LGA.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Kaduna, Muhammed Jalinge, said when the police arrived at the hotel, the bandits started shooting sporadically as they made to escape.

Jalinge said while Arushe’s partner, Yellow Ashana, escaped with bullet wounds, he was taken to hospital where he was confirmed dead.

7. Bandits Are Not Terrorists But Commit Terrorism – Gumi

Controversial Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, has stated that bandits are committing terrorism but should not be described as terrorists.

Gumi who has been described by many as an advocate for bandits made this claim in an interview with Daily Trust.

According to the cleric, the call for President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to declare bandits as terrorists were driven by prejudice and bigotry.

Gumi stated this before the Federal High Court in Abuja declared bandits as terrorists.

8. Fuel Subsidy: CNPP Slams APC, NLC, TUC, Other Labour Leaders

Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has knocked the leaders of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), accusing them of “representing their personal interests and not that of their members.”

In a statement sent to Naija News on Sunday and signed by its Secretary General, Chief Willy Ezugwu, CNPP said it was prepared to lead the anti-subsidy struggle when Nigerians are ready to take their future into their hands.

Accusing the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the federal government of being deceitful in implementing the subsidy regime, the conference said that “what the federal government wants to do is fuel price increment, not subsidy removal.”

The CNPP stated that it is disheartening that the Nigerian labour unions have joined the All Progressives Congress led federal government in its deceitful and manipulative tendencies since the APC government came to power.

9. Three Killed, One Injured In Ogun Fatal Road Crash

Five persons were reportedly involved in a fatal road crash on Sunday morning around Saapade Bridge, Ogere area of Ogun State.

The accident as confirmed to newsmen by the Ogun Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), happened between a Mack truck with registration number, SMK499XU and a Nissan car marked GH598LND.

The spokesperson of the FRSC in the state, Florence Okpe, disclosed that three people died in the crash while one person sustained injury, Naija News reports.

Okpe attributed the causes of the crash to route violation (one-way drive) and excessive speed.

10. Lekki Massacre: #EndSARS Panel Illegal – Festus Keyamo

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo (SAN) has described as illegal the judicial panel of inquiry set up to investigate cases of police brutality and SARS-related abuses across the country.

Naija News reports that the senior lawyer faulted the report by the Lagos judicial panel which has drawn controversy and mixed reactions.

“I will not answer this question as a sitting minister,” he said on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics, adding; “I will answer this question as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and so, I am entitled to my own opinion. This is not the Federal Government’s position.

“For me, that panel was an illegal panel”.
