Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani has described Sunday’s attack by gunmen on a correctional center in Jos, Plateau State as a strong message of armed challenge to the federal government.
It will be recalled that the Nigeria Correctional Service (prison) located in Jos, the Plateau State capital came under attack from gunmen suspected to be bandits.
Information gathered by Naija News says the attackers who stormed the facility on Sunday afternoon, shot heavily forcing nearby residents to scamper for safety.
Confirming the attack, the controller of corrections (PRO) Francis Enobore said the attackers opened fire on the security operatives guarding the correctional centre before they gained entrance.
Enobore however added that the attackers were trapped inside the facility as reinforcement from sister security agencies arrived before they could exit.
Reacting to the incident, former Kaduna federal lawmaker, Sani in a social media post on Monday wrote: “Attacks on Jos and other prisons; a strong message of an open, armed challenge to the federal authority and powers.”
Meanwhile, the Plateau State Police Command has reacted to the attack on Jos Correctional Centre by gunmen on Sunday.
According to the state police command, seven inmates that escaped from the facility after the attack have been re-arrested.
The spokesperson of the command, Ubah Ogaba disclosed this in a statement released on Sunday
